CHIROPRACTOR FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS
The plantar fascia is a strong band of connective tissue extending along the underside of the foot. It contributes to arch stability and helps the foot transition from a flexible structure during initial contact to a more rigid platform when you push off.
Restricted ankle motion, limited calf flexibility, altered foot mechanics, prolonged standing, changes in activity, and poor movement patterns can all increase stress throughout this system.

This is one reason heel pain may be especially noticeable after getting out of bed or standing after prolonged sitting. The tissues have been relatively inactive, then suddenly encounter mechanical load.
Instead of focusing exclusively on the painful spot, a comprehensive approach should consider how the entire lower extremity is functioning.

Gentle mobility work for the calf, ankle, and foot can help improve movement quality. Rather than aggressively stretching into pain, controlled movements should be performed within a comfortable range.
Calf mobility is particularly important because restricted ankle movement can alter how the foot absorbs and transfers forces during walking.
Consistent mobility work may also help prepare the tissues for daily activity, particularly when performed after periods of inactivity.
The muscles and connective tissues surrounding the foot and lower leg influence how force travels through the lower extremity.
Targeted soft tissue techniques may help address areas of tension and improve local tissue mobility. A massage ball or other appropriate tool can sometimes be useful, but excessive pressure directly over an irritated heel may aggravate symptoms rather than improve them.
The goal is not simply to make the painful area feel temporarily different. The objective is to improve how the surrounding structures move and tolerate load.

Footwear can significantly influence the forces placed on the feet throughout the day.
Shoes should provide an appropriate combination of stability, cushioning, and room for natural foot movement. Individuals experiencing heel pain may also benefit from temporarily reducing time spent barefoot on hard surfaces if that increases discomfort.
However, footwear alone does not correct every contributing factor. If abnormal movement mechanics are driving repeated stress, supportive shoes may provide comfort without addressing the underlying problem.
Continuing to repeatedly overload an irritated structure can make recovery more difficult.
If running, jumping, prolonged walking, or extended periods of standing consistently increase symptoms, temporarily modifying those activities may give the tissues an opportunity to recover.
This does not necessarily mean complete inactivity. Maintaining appropriate movement while controlling excessive mechanical stress is often a more practical strategy.

Persistent plantar fasciitis deserves more than a one size fits all treatment plan.
At Gonstead Chiropractic Center, our approach begins with understanding the factors that may be contributing to your foot pain.
A detailed Foot Pain Assessment™ can help evaluate mobility, muscular function, structural mechanics, and other potential contributors to discomfort.
The purpose is to develop a more individualized strategy rather than simply treating the location where you feel pain.

If heel pain is interfering with walking, exercise, work, or everyday activities, you do not have to keep guessing about what may be causing it.
Schedule a Foot Pain Assessment™ with Gonstead Chiropractic Center, and take a closer look at the factors affecting your foot function.
