I understand how difficult it can be to live with frozen shoulder. Many of my patients describe the pain as a constant, deep ache that radiates from the shoulder into the arm. Some feel burning sensations or sharp, stabbing pains, especially at night, making sleep nearly impossible.
The stiffness can be so severe that simple tasks like getting dressed, washing your hair, or even reaching for something on a shelf become overwhelming. Others have mentioned the frustration of dealing with tingling or numbness that extends down the arm and into the fingers, adding to the discomfort.
I also hear from people that this condition can be emotionally draining.
The inability to move freely can increase stress, and the pain often becomes worse during particularly stressful periods, creating a vicious cycle that impacts both physical and mental well-being.
You don’t have to face this alone, though.
With the right treatment, there is hope to regain mobility, manage your pain, and get back to doing the things you love without the constant burden of frozen shoulder.

Frozen shoulder is a condition that leads to pain and stiffness of the shoulder. It’s also known as adhesive capsulitis or shoulder contracture. Typically, you’ll experience shoulder pain which can become more severe over a number of months. This is usually followed by increasing stiffness. The stiffness may affect your ability to carry out everyday activities. In particularly severe cases, you may not be able to move your shoulder at all.
Frozen shoulder occurs when the flexible tissue that surrounds the shoulder joint, known as the capsule, becomes inflamed and thickened. It’s not fully understood why this process happens. This can happen in one or both shoulders.
This condition can appear without any apparent reason, however, your risk of developing a frozen shoulder can increase if you have a previous shoulder injury or shoulder surgery, diabetes or a thyroid problem, Dupuytren’s contracture – a condition where small lumps of thickened tissue form in the hands and fingers other health conditions, such as heart disease and stroke.
For most patients, Frozen shoulder can be reversed with proper care and treatment.
Depending on the severity and compliance of each patient, we typically average 50-95% improvement in symptoms if we can accept them into our program. Our treatments are non-surgical and medication free, we aid the body in healing itself instead of masking the pain.
While keeping your shoulder mobile is vital to healing and recovery, you should still refrain from moving your shoulder in pulling, jerky, and jarring movements. These movements will only make the pain worse and add more strain to your muscles.
So, why do the symptoms get worse at night? Imagine your shoulder as a door hinge. When it’s "frozen," it doesn’t move smoothly. Lying down puts extra pressure on that stiff hinge, causing the joint to feel even more squeezed and uncomfortable.
Try sleeping on your back and resting your arms straight by your sides with your palms facing down. This prone position with your arms extended by your sides puts the least amount of pressure on your shoulder joints and allows your muscles and soft tissues to gently stretch and release.
Addressing the root cause of your shoulder pain is the first step toward regaining full mobility and enjoying daily activities without the burden of pain.
Don't let frozen shoulder hold you back any longer; schedule your exam today and take the first step towards a life of freedom and comfort!
