Frequently Asked Questions

I’m experiencing numbness, tingling, or burning pain — can a chiropractor help?

Yes. Numbness, tingling, and burning sensations are often related to nerve irritation or peripheral neuropathy. Our chiropractors in Fort Mill can assess nerve function and provide chiropractic care designed to reduce nerve pressure, improve circulation, and support long-term nerve health using non-invasive treatment options.

I have ongoing back pain or sciatica — should I see a chiropractor?

Absolutely. Back pain and sciatica are among the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care. Our chiropractors in Fort Mill focuses on improving spinal alignment, relieving pressure on affected nerves, and restoring mobility to help reduce pain caused by disc issues, sciatica, or chronic lower back strain.

Can chiropractic care help with bulging or herniated discs?

Yes. Chiropractic care is commonly used to help manage symptoms related to bulging, herniated, or degenerative discs. By using gentle, targeted techniques, we can help reduce inflammation, improve spinal movement, and relieve discomfort without surgery whenever possible.

I’m dealing with neck pain and frequent headaches — can a chiropractor help?

Yes. Neck pain and headaches are often connected to tension or misalignment in the cervical spine. Chiropractic care focuses on restoring proper movement in the neck, reducing muscle strain, and addressing spinal issues that may be contributing to recurring headaches and stiffness.

My knee hurts when I walk, stand, or I hear grinding or cracking — is chiropractic care an option?

It can be. Knee pain is often influenced by joint alignment, posture, and how the spine and hips function together. A chiropractor in Fort Mill can evaluate these factors and provide chiropractic treatment aimed at improving joint mechanics, reducing pain, and making everyday movement more comfortable.

I’m not sure what’s causing my pain — can a chiropractor figure that out?

Yes. One of the main benefits of seeing a chiropractor is identifying the root cause of pain. Chiropractic care involves a thorough evaluation of the spine, joints, and nervous system to determine what’s contributing to your symptoms and to create a personalized, drug-free treatment plan.

Do I need medication or surgery before seeing a chiropractor in Fort Mill?

No. Many patients choose chiropractic care as a first step before considering medication or surgery. Our chiropractor in Fort Mill offers conservative, non-invasive care focused on pain relief, improved function, and long-term wellness.

Back Pain

Is My Back Pain Muscle Pain or Disc Pain?

October 06, 20252 min read

If you’re experiencing back pain, you might be asking, “How can I tell if my pain is coming from a muscle or a disc?”

Understanding the difference is crucial for effective treatment, and I’m here to help you recognize the signs.

Key Indicators to Differentiate Between Muscle Pain and Disc Pain:

#1. Location of Pain:

  • Muscle Pain: Typically localized in the back, especially in the muscles surrounding the spine

You may feel tightness or tenderness in specific areas, usually affected by movement or activity.

  • Disc Pain: Often feels deeper and may radiate into other areas, such as the buttocks, legs, or even feet

This can indicate that the intervertebral disc is affecting nearby nerves.

#2. Nature of Pain:

  • Muscle Pain: Usually described as dull, aching, or throbbing

It may improve with rest, gentle movement, or heat application.

  • Disc Pain: Often presents as sharp, shooting, or burning pain.

You might experience symptoms like tingling or numbness in the legs, especially if a nerve is compressed.

#3. Movement Sensitivity:

  • Muscle Pain: Often worsens with specific movements, especially those that strain the back muscles, such as lifting or twisting

You may find relief with gentle stretching or rest.

  • Disc Pain: Pain may increase with activities that put pressure on the spine, such as sitting for long periods or bending forward.

It can also be aggravated by coughing or sneezing.

#4. Accompanying Symptoms:

  • Muscle Pain: Generally limited to soreness in the back without neurological symptoms.

Muscle spasms may also occur.

  • Disc Pain: May be accompanied by weakness in the legs, altered reflexes, or changes in bowel or bladder control, which are more serious symptoms requiring immediate medical attention.
