Sleeping Position

What is the best position to sleep in with CHRONIC KNEE PAIN?

April 30, 20252 min read

Are your knees aching and painful, especially at night 💤?

The position you sleep 💤 in can make a big difference in your knee discomfort.

When it comes to getting quality, restorative sleep with achy, painful knees, your sleep 💤 position can make a big difference.

Here are some of the best positions to try

Position #1 - Side Sleeping

Lying on your side is generally considered one of the most knee-friendly sleep positions.

Place a pillow between your knees to keep your legs aligned and take pressure off the joints.

This helps maintain natural spinal curvature.

Position #2 - Back Sleeping

Sleeping on your back is another good option, as it prevents added stress or strain on your knees.

Place a small pillow under your knees to provide some gentle elevation and keep your legs in a neutral position.

Position #3 - Reclined Position

Elevating the head of your bed slightly, either with an adjustable frame or extra pillows, can help reduce swelling and inflammation in the knees.

The reclined position takes tension off the joint.

Position #4 - Avoid Stomach Sleeping

Sleeping face-down is the worst position for 🤯 CHRONIC KNEE PAIN, as it forces your knees into an unnatural, flexed position that can exacerbate discomfort.

Regardless of your preferred sleep position, using supportive pillows to keep your body aligned is key.

You may also benefit from placing a pillow or folded towel under your knees for extra cushioning.

In addition to your sleeping position, be sure to incorporate other knee-friendly habits into your routine, such as gentle stretching, strengthening exercises, and applying ice before bed.

Addressing the root causes of your 🤯 CHRONIC KNEE PAIN through comprehensive treatment can go a long way towards helping you get the restorative, pain-free sleep your body needs.
